there? I have ridiculous amount of homework that deals with classical and non-fiction novels and I would love to find some light-hearted, easy going science fiction or even fantasy novels that don't force me to ponder the secrets of the universe or the deterioration of human society, something more like The Lost Fleet or The Dresden Files or even Codex Alera and less like Starship Troopers or Asimov's books? Thanks!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a famous one, if you want something comedic and REALLY light-hearted (not to mention a bit weird).

Other than that, pretty much any more recent science fiction story is going to be less philosophical than Asimov or Heinlein. They might not be 'happy', per say, but they aren't all that heavy handed in preaching a philosophy or idea, at least for the most part.

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, definitely. Also Good Omens (by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman), which is about the Apocalypse but hilarious.
