Are there any prophecies concerning the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) in the Old Testament?

i've heard that there are like Isaiah 29:11 and 12. Are there any others. Are these true prophecies or just cherry picking by muslims?
What's the difference between muslims using that reference out of context as prophecy and christians using Isaiah 7:14 out of context as prophecy?
Isn't that the same thing as the jewish concept of midrash?
djmantix:::Matthew 1: 22 -23 appears to say Isaiah 7 14 is referring to the "virgin" birth of the messiah. When read in context isaiah 7 appears to have nothing to do with a messianic prophecy and actually appears to be a sign for that time to king Ahaz's court referring to the birth of Hezekiah.

I have been told the same thing by Muslims. I have not had time to analyse the assertions, it is far from a simple matter. Their claim is that the references Christians see as foretelling the coming of Jesus are actually foretelling Muhammad. Interesting. It would be disrespectful not to analyse it properly.

Small edit. Some examples would help, I am not winning these arguments and I still find the assertions unbelievable.

From the first Scriptures, the Torah God warns of men who would claim to be prophets that would seek to deceive people to follow false gods.
God warns us to test a prophet of God with the word of God and the words of the prophets.
Muhammad claims to have met a messenger who clearly disagreed with God and the words of the prophets. Muhammad first correctly identified this spirit as a demon.
Some time later for no known reason other than instructions from his wife and her uncle Muhammad decided to trust this spirit...this spirit instructs Muhammad that if he had doubts he should check with those who read the previous scriptures....Muhammad is a false prophet according tot he true word of God and a false prophet according to his own book

Deut.13: 1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

A prophet of God must be in agreement with the words of the prophets and the known word of God.

1John 2: 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Anyone who claims to be a prophet of God must agree Jesus is the Christ the Son of God who is our Savior.
2 John 1:7 For many deceivers
are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist

Gal. 1: 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

If an angel or a man preach a different gospel he is not of God.

Lamar, in what way do you believe Isaiah is taken out of context by Christians? Feel free to read all of Isaiah and read it from the Jewish Tanakh... you will still find the same prophesies of the coming Messiah.


Lamar, a prophesy can refer to more than one incident and more than one time...I would give you the example of Abraham and Issac.A Jew may well not see the story of the sacrifce of Issac as a prophesy of the coming "Lamb of God" but Abraham names the place Jehovah-jireh..which means the lord will provide, because it was the place he said "the Lord will provide himself a Lamb" The same Isaiah we were speaking of prophesied the same coming of the Lamb of God in Isaiah 53. The difference between Jew and Christian would be the interpretation of a scripture, the difference in a Jew and Christian as compared to a Muslim prophesy would be the scriptures themselves...Muslims teach that God would not keep his word and then attempt to self interpret scriptures they can't trust and do not follow. The words of Isaiah are recognized as scripture to both Jews and Christians. To say Islam recognizes the Torah or Gospel as trustworthy scripture would be and is disingenuous.
Muhmmad was not a Christian who received further revelation from God. Muhammad did not follow the scriptures before receiving the revelation he called the Quran.
The difference in the writers of the Gospel interpreting scripture is these were followers of the scriptures.
Are we to say Mathew was unfamiliar with the Jewish interpretaion of scripture? Mathew was a Jew. Christians recognize the words of Isaiah and the words of all the prophets as scripture and these are a part of the Christian Bible.

it's just cherry picking. after reading the passage itself, those specific lines could be taken out of context to imply that the prophecy and seers have failed to see somebody, however when read as a whole, ie chapter 28 as well as the beginning of and rest of Isaiah 29 you see that it was a specific event in the past during a siege of Jerusalem where the people were being told not to fret since the lord would provide.
It's just another sad example of zealots and fools trying to dice words in such a manner as to appear in the right, like when the pope gave a speech that mentioned muslim violence in one line and then began talking about peace and cooperation or some such. They ignored the plea for nonviolence and tolerance, chose to be insulted and began attacking people all the while quoting the one offending line out of context because in context it was just a segue into hopes for a modern peace.
Back to Isaiah, In this case there is no mention of mohammad or islam or any such thing to come but because of some commentary on prophets not seeing and seers being blind they try to hide mohammad in it. They see what they want to see, not what is there.

Muhammad’s story is the story of a man who comes into power and uses that power to crush those that oppose him. Muhammad mixed politics with his dictatorial man-made religion.

To liberate the Muslim from his religion is the best service one can render him."

ON TO THE TEACHINGS

To highlight Muhammad’s teachings I’m going to present a few quotes from some of the earliest Islamic source materials available. They are respected by devout Muslims worldwide.

Allah's Apostle said, "I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them except legally and their reckoning will be with Allah." [4]

So when the sacred months have passed away then slay the idolaters wherever you find them and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor rate, leave their way free to them, surely Allah is forgiving, Merciful. [5]

Fight those who do not believe in Allah nor in the latter days nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth out of those who have been given the Book until they pay the tax and acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection. [6]

"To John ibn Rabah and the Chiefs of Aylah. Peace be on you! I praise God for you, beside whom there is no Lord. I will not fight against you until I have written thus unto you. Believe, or else pay tribute. And be obedient unto the Lord and his Prophet, and the messengers of his Prophet. Honor them and clothe them with excellent vestments, not with inferior raiment. Specially clothe Zeid with excellent garments. As long as my messengers are pleased, so likewise am I. Ye know the tribute. If ye desire to have security by sea and by land, obey the Lord and his Apostle, and he will defend you from every claim, whether by Arab or foreigner, saving the claim of the Lord and his Apostle. But if ye oppose and displease them, I will not accept from you a single thing, until I have fought against you and taken captive your little ones and slain the elder. [7]

Muhammad did indeed teach terrorism and he put his teachings into practice. He walked the walk. So did his followers. After he died tens of thousands of people left Islam, and tens of thousands of them were forced to re-convert to Islam after other thousands were slaughtered by Muslim armies.

Religion of peace did you say? Are you kidding me?

I know one ex-Muslim who said to me, "I memorized the Quran and knew that it called Muhammad a mercy for mankind. But as I studied his life I saw the trail of blood behind him grow ever wider. I could not reconcile his violence and killing with what the Quran said about him." This Muslim studied Muhammad’s life according to the earliest Islamic source materials at an Islamic religious university.

You see, its all there, available in English, waiting for a naïve and lazy Western audience to read.

Of course you won’t find intellectual cowards like Juan Cole, Steve Waldman, or Gary Leupp addressing Muhammad’s evil deeds. It’s too politically incorrect to tell it like it is about Muhammad. It’s a shame; they’re all intelligent men. Their hatred and bias are often vented against others but when they write about Muhammad they turn a blind eye to his crimes.

Muhammad’s teachings and actions are the foundation that today’s Muslim terrorists build upon.
