Republicans want to stop abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade. Problem is, Roe v. Wade actually had very little to do with abortion. It never answered the central question of abortion legality, which is "is the fetus a living human baby or simply a clump of cells?"
Now understand that I DO believe that the fetus IS a living human baby. Got that? But that is not what Roe v. Wade was about. The question that Roe v. Wade dealt with is "who has control over a woman's body, the woman or the government?" And the Supreme Court went with the absolutely correct decision of saying the woman controls her own body.
If Republicans were to overturn Roe v. Wade, they still would not legally be defining a fetus as a living human baby and so still would not be making abortion illegal. What they would be doing is saying the government now controls women's bodies, and therefore controls their medical decisions. In fact, with the Republicans giving the government control over women's bodies but still not legally making the fetus a separate living body, the Republicans would literally be giving the government the fully LEGAL right to FORCE women to have to get abortions.
Because while Republicans took the choice away from women who would have chosen abortion, they had to do it by taking the choice away from women who would have chosen life.
Republicans would, in effect, be GUARANTEEING that abortions occurred; NOT stopping them.
Democrats are just as against abortion as Republicans are. The difference is that Democrats want to stop abortion by leaving women in control of their own bodies; and then when they are young providing women with the information they need to avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place.
That way, if there is no unwanted pregnancy, there is nothing to tempt the young woman to abortion. And if she does want the pregnancy, then she wouldn't choose abortion anyway. Point is, the government can not force her to get one because the government is not the one with the choice.
Your question is fairly invalid. Even the ones who said no to your question did not mean that they want women aborting their fetuses/babies (whichever term anyone prefers) just for the "fun" of it.
What they are trying to get across is that they see the government having control over this decision is the real threat to our nation. Women MUST control their own bodies. We just to make sure that young women get the information they need to use that control responsibly.
