AT&T DSL or Hughesnet Internet..Which one?

I live in a VERY rural area, the only choice I had a couple of years ago for my internet was either dial up internet or satellite. I purchased the dish from Direct TV, now its Hughes net. The Hughes net plans are expensive ($100.00 for my plan) I like the speed of my surfing, but do not like the fact that if a cloud blows up, my internet dish goes out (but my TV dish is still working). Also I recently started looking at videos on the web and apparently I reached some limit of what I could use daily and for 24hrs my internet was dead slow.

I do not know technical terms, but which service would be fastest have the most download capabilities and would cost less? Thanks for your help

AT&T might be more reliable but their "high speed" internet is about the same speed as dial-up for me. But i might be an isolated incident.
