...something that seems? so ludicrous? If we respect something that has no basis in logic, should we also respect fortune tellers, astrologists, and the crazy neighbours next door?
 
We should respect the rights of other humans. That includes their right to religious freedom. However, we have no obligation to respect their religions.
 
Yes. You should respect all life. Just because it seems ludicrous and stupid to you, doesn't mean it IS. Or that it doesn't deserve your respect. Religion can hold great power in helping people out of trouble, to give them some fullness to life. REGARDLESS of how true it may be. I am not an athiest, nor do I belong to any religion. But I would say to you respect what people believe. This is how wars are started and nations divided.
