Atheists: You specified that a person shouldn't be able to preach their religion?

If a person were not able to preach their religion, it would take away an important right all people should have: freedom of speech.

In the United States and throughout the entire world Jehovah's Witnesses have fought for their rights to preach publicly and door to door in Supreme Courts.

Sorry for my generalizations. Of course not all of you said that, I was trying to grab your attention.

You seem to be refering to my answer. I never said that they shouldn't be able to preach to us, I said they just shouldn't. They have every right to do it, but, as my fellow atheists specified, I'd rather they didn't constantly try to convert me.

Freedom of speech yes, in places of worship where people can choose whether they enter or not. But calling on people's doors and trying to convert them is stretching it. I've had them at my door, engaging me in conversation for several minutes before mentioning that they are Witnesses.

As long as you aren't using public dollars to say it you can say whatever you want.

Go ahead, preach......it's a free country.....and everyone is free to chose not to listen....So, if you are so compelled to preach, study for the ministry ..... jeeze, this yahoo is not a congregation, it's a forum for ........ everybody I think...........

Please point out where I specified that, Captain Generaliser.

In my country, New Zealand, preachers do have the right to go door to door, and that's fine by me. Also good is the fact that preachers are required by NZ law to leave the property as soon the occupant has made it clear that they are not interested. Freedom of religion includes the right to freedom from religion.

A person first knows about Religion
Than peoples -whom they teach
First understand ourselves than GOD
Go with Good knowledge (absolute truth)

Fully be able to preach their religion

Freedom of speech : what the truth - understand for all easily

It isn't just that not all of us say that. I have never heard a single person say that. And I would be very surprised if you had.

I've heard atheists say that they don't want you preaching to them, or that they don't want you preaching in particular circumstances, or even that they would prefer if you didn't preach at all. But I have never heard any atheist say that you 'shouldn't be able to preach'.
Your response applies exclusively to an argument which extremely few (if any) atheists actually express.

its not about freedom of speech its about freedom of choice preach all you like i have a right to choose not to believe based on the facts that make the most sense to me. you are not going to convince me otherwise. if you want to have freedom of speech talk to the people that want to listen you will feel more fore filled that your message is received

im pretty sure that was one guy, who forgot what free speech was... can u stop saying atheists, we dont all have the same belief about anything other than not believing in god.

Okay, I'll refine my opinion then.. religious people can preach all they like, but they are asking for my b*tchy side when they corner me, pester me or won't leave me be after I've already said a polite 'thanks, but no thanks'.

Also, I think that if religious people should be able to preach, then the religious shouldn't have any problems with any atheists who want to promote or preach atheism through public forums or door knockings (not that I know any who would want to).. it's a two way street!

That's preaching their religion though isn't it? I have respect, I can accept people have their beliefs. If you want to hold a fundraiser and leave little pamphlets in my mailbox, fine, I can just throw them away. And maybe someone who is actually interested will respond. But the minute you walk up to my house and hold me there for several minutes to listen to your nonsense, no, that's too far. Shall i come around to your house and preach Satan? No, because that's offensive to you. Have some respect.
