here are a couple of sound cards which would all be good choices

first Asus Xonar:
Great quality product made by Asus. Asus has not really been known for sound cards but this card a very good choice

this is just one xfi product there are a whole range of them that range from for gamers to music. you can do some searching one con of soundblaster is they tend to have unstable drivers but its the better bang for the buck.

One of these days I'd like to be able to call myself an audiophile though currently I don't seem to have the money to call myself one. However I'm looking to work toward my audiophile goal.

I recently spent about $700 on building a new pc. I am now looking to upgrade the audio output on said pc now. About 5 years ago I bought a decent quality 5.1 surround sound system intended for my tv, however now I plan on using it for the speaker system on my computer as well.

Long story short, I need to know what the best sound card for music is in the $100-$150 range, and what the best sound card is in the $150-$200 range.

Also with an external USB based audio interface such as the M-audio Transit improve audio from a high quality sound card?

Any other tips on improving sound quality on my computer?
