AVCHD is a format for the recording and playback of high definition video that Developed by Sony and Panasonic, the format was announced in 2006 primarily for use in high definition consumer camcorders,Avchd can extension as mts, m2ts, trp, ts, tp etc.

Great video editor like imovie ,can accept MTS video, but only when they are running on an Intel-chip based Mac. A PPC Mac won't work. others like fcp, fce like mov etc files.

1:iMovie as a proprietary video editing software application allows Mac users to edit their own home movies in DV, HDV, MOV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 formats directly.

2:Final Cut Express is a non-linear video editing application created by Apple Inc: The ability to keyframe filters, Dynamic RT, which changes real-time settings on-the-fly, Motion path keyframing, Ripple, roll, slip, slide and blade edits, Picture-in-picture and split-screen effects etc.

FAQ:Have final cut express and I filmed a movie with a HDR-SR. How can I edit this video footage in FCP? I know Calibrated(Q)XD Decoder, but it's like 80 bucks,, any other alternatives?

avchd and avchd lite:

AVCHD from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, JVC etc is a format for the recording and playback of high definition video.

Tips: Canon HR10,HG, Vixia HF series, Hitachi dz-bd10ha, Panasonic HDC series, JVC GZ-MG series, Sony HDR series etc all record AVCHD video.

AVCHD Lite(720p/30) is a subset of the AVCHD format popularized by hard disk camcorders, uses h.264 video coupled with AAC audio for recording movies.

Tips: Panasonic's Lumix GF1 Micro Four Thirds, Lumix DMC-FZ35/38 and Lumix DMC-TZ10/ZS7 cameras all shoot video in the AVCHD Lite format.

For Windows user, AVCHD video converter supports convert, import, transfer, upload, edit AVCHD files(including mts, m2ts, ts, trp, tp) from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, JVC etc AVCHD camcorder on Windows 2000, xp, vista, 7.

Many people like to edit avchd or avchd lite video files with Windows Movie Maker, but Neither of these two formats is directly supported by Windows Movie Maker, sony vegas and bure dvd using dvd maker.

1:Pros and cons about Windows Movie Maker

Pros
Easy to use
Drag and drop features
Multiple transitions
Straight forward

Cons
Windows only
Only avi/wmv support
Export options are very limited
Transitions are jerky
Wizards can be tedious

2:Relevant issues about AVCHD to Sony Vegas: The current versions of Vegas Pro have added support for most consumer AVCHD camcorders, including 1920x1080 formats from Sony, Panasonic and Canon. But in fact, there are many problem not really solved,Transfer .mts footage to computer via the USB cable"(use Sony Vegas Pro 8),
still experience lagginess (even with a Quad Core CPU and an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 280 video card), even freezes or errors (such as "An exception has occurred"),No LFE audio from AVCHD files in Vegas Pro 8, AVCHD files to Vegas can not play at a full 29.97fps,

3:PowerPoint supported video and audio formats, not avchd:
Audio: aiff, au, mid, mp3, wav, wma
Video:
• avi, asf : supports
• wmv : Supported on Windows, Supported on OS X with the Flip4Mac codec
• mpg : MPEG1 is supported; MPEG2 is supported on Vista only and may require a 3rd party plugin on XP or OS X
• mov (QuickTime): Supported up to version 3 on Windows; Subsequent versions not supported on Windows; All versions supported on OS X

4:DVD Creator, like dvd decryptor, nero, dvd flick, dvd maker etc, all are great Free DVD burner on Windows, However, they can not all accept AVCHD files from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, JVC etc directly, such as DVD Maker, always work with WMV files, can not accept AVCHD files.

TO be frank, avchd is not a widely accepted formats, for mac user, we also need to convert avchd to mp4, mov, dv, avi, wmv, flv, swf, flash, etc for importing to ipad, ipod, iphone, iMovie, fcp, fce, adobe premiere,iDVD

youtube, myspace, facebook etc.

AVCHD converter for Mac is especially designed for Sony, Panasonic, Canon, JVC etc AVCHD camcorder user who desire to import AVCHD to various video device for playing, editing and making home DVDs on Mac os, also can help import fujifilm camera, flip camera, kodak camera video.
