I've noticed, playing divx videos on my computer, that while the brighter stuff usually looks great, if there's dark and shadow it looks kinda crummy. For one thing, it doesn't shade smoothly - instead it transitions abruptly from one shade to another, and sometimes its all blocky and full of artifacts. Its better with higher quality videos but its still there. Is there anything to do about this?
Admittedly, my setup is a little limited- an old Pentium 4 with a cheap graphics card, plus an even older 17" CRT monitor. However I think I've seen this problem on newer computers with LCD screens as well.
