Can you put avi and other video files onto a DVD disc?

If not, how do you format or put it into a DVD disc?

I've researched around the net, but haven't found any useful answers.

Serious answers only.

Thanks in advance!

I am using a free DVD Creating software called WinX DVD Author. It can burn your MKV or AVI, and other video formats like AVCHD, M2TS, MP4 to DVD. And during the burning process, this freeware will auto transcode your video to DVD VOB format, say MPEG-2.
Give it a try at: http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-author/

of course, you can. most apps will automatically convert them to Mpeg 2 format which is what dvds use.
so yes, most apps that make dvds (nerovision, windows dvd maker, iDVD) will automatically re encode the movies to work

I always use ConvertXtoDVD,it has no any problems:
It supports most video and audio formats for video conversion (avi, mpg, mov, wmv, mkv, ogm and more),You also can create DVD Menu and add subtitles(SRT, .SUB/IDX, .SSA) to DVD. It can create NTSC DVD and PAL DVD with high quality.
Free download from vso official site:

Hope it is helpful for you.
