Avoid DMV sales tax fees by selling immediately?

So I recently bought out my lease, from a dealer in CT (I live in CA), a Mitsubishi Lancer. The only reason I bought it out is because the residual was some ~$2000 below the KBB value, so I thought I could turn around and sell it.

However, it looks like I need to pay around ~1200 simply for sales tax to transfer the title over to me.

Thus, here's my question. I have the bill of sale from Mitsubishi, and the signed over Connecticut title that has my name on it. Is it possible for me to simply sell the car, and hand over all these documents to the new buyer, and have him deal with the title transfer? Or will it be necessary for me to obtain a California title myself, then immediately transfer that? Seems like double-paying for sales tax, if you ask me.

Thanks for your time!
