computer: Acer laptop running windows XP
The facts: When I connect my PC to my DSL modem, browsing is fast as usual, no problems. When I disconnect my PC and connect my laptop to the DSL modem, I can connect but the connection is EXTREMELY slow (it takes 4 minutes to get into gmail). After 4 minutes of connectivity, I have sent approx 400 packets and received roughly the same, which I understand is very low.
What I have already done to try and solve the problem:
1. ipconfig release and renew...gives me the same private IP each time, no change. Tried DNSdump, no change.
2. uninstalled my network card and reinstalled it, no change.
3. uninstalled the network card driver and attempted to reinstall w updated driver from ACER website, no change.
4. turned off modem and laptop for 5 minutes, turned back on, no change, same IP address.
5. TCP/IP is installed and set to receive IP address automatically, firewalls are off, ran updated spyware/virus and found nothing
My conclusion: my Network card is dying or overheating but that simply doesn't make sense to me; i've never pushed this laptop to its limits and this was all working fine 2 days ago.
...totally baffled. yahoo answers is my last hope. anyone got any ideas?
