...ball flies over the fence for a home r? The batter knocks the cover off a baseball but the core of the ball flies over the fence for a home run. Meanwhile, the catcher caught the leather cover in his mitt for an out. Is it a home run or has the batter fouled out? No discussions about physical possibilities... just answer the question. Did the batter foul out or hit a homer?
 
Who knows. What makes the ball a ball? The leather or the string and core?
It' one of those question's that really cannot be answered. And what if the guy who hit it died as he was running the bases,,then what?
 
The core is still a baseball just minus the cover. Besides, imagine the core landing in the outfield and the catcher trying the throw the cover to 2nd for an out.
