want to install basement exhaust fan for smoking etc.wondering if you can tie in the vent to furnance exhaust or water heater exhaust pipe,or even dryer vent.or would this lead to smokey air coming back in.really dont want to drill any more holes in side of house

Of the three, I'd tie into the dryer vent since the dryer is only throwing hot air. I'd worry about fumes from the other two appliances.

Have you considered the used of a really good hepa air purifier for the basement instead of a vent?

I would tie into the dryer vent. Set up the tie in such that it can't take the new fan air into the dryer...

This is not a good idea, you will have exhaust blowing into the room. Cut in a new hole for the exhaust fan.

Tying into the dryer vent isn't a good idea either. The dryer will blow moist air into the room and you may start having mold issues.
