Hey, Im a 16 year old girl (5'3 and 140) looking for my first bike. Dont worry, my parents are on board, im just doing my own research. My dad suggested a Rebel, but I think it looks kinda dumb personally....so I am looking at the Kawasaki Ninja650R and the Suzuki GSX650F. I might get a lower power, 650 seems like a lot to me! But i want to know what people say about it as a first bike. It would be used. So far, the Suzuki seems like a better choice, but people say the Ninja is a better first bike....help!

Being a seventeen year old girl who is also 5 foot three and 140 pounds (That's strange...) I'd suggest something less powerful. Have you ever ridden dirt bikes or any experience in any type of bikes? Don't get in over your head, maybe take a motorcycle riding class (they should provide the bikes) before you buy so you know what you like/don't like when you're riding, and therefore can be a more educated buyer.

My dad let me ride on of his giant bikes (some kind of enduro, forget the brand) down the neighborhood, and when I stopped I realized how heavy the bike was, and it just fell on me! Than it was pretty embarrassing when I realized I couldn't push the bike up on my own, so personally I feel like i'd want something I could push back up if it fell over. I also couldn't touch the ground, which is a problem many new riders feel uncomfortable with. Both feet don't have to be touching when you stop (Although it makes me feel safer) but you have to be able to comfortably hold the weight of the bike leaning on one leg (if the bike is kinda tall) for in situations when you're at stop lights and such. :)

Man, I'm so jealous your parents are letting you get a bike. I've been riding on the dirt all my life, but my parents say the pavement is too dangerous.

p.s. I like the suggestion of riding in the dirt before the road, find a friend who owns a dirt bike, they're bunches of fun, plus no cars to worry about.

I would recommend the ninja 250r. A 250 sport bike has approx. 30 horsepower.Which is just right for a beginner. The 650 sport bikes have close to 70 hp which is a big difference. If you will not accept a 250, I recommend sitting on the other bikes before buying. More cc equals more weight, making slow maneuvers more difficult. Riding a bike slow and controlled is the hardest thing to do for beginners.
