I know I've asked this before in my 'name suggestion' question, but I need help. I adopted a new spayed, female cat yesterday. She is declawed when we adopted her. She looks a bit like a tuxedo, but she's more black. My cat can't seem to accept the fact that she's here. I know that they are territorial animals, though.
They sniffed each other underneath the door crack for several of hours, and I noticed that they were completely fine with each other. So I opened the door a little bit and supervised them while they met each other. My cat started sniffing her, and she did the same back. All of a sudden, he raised up his paw and bat it at her. I'm not sure if he hurt her or not, but she didn't make any sounds, so I don't think she's hurt. I've actually spent more time with my old cat since I've gotten him than with my new cat, but he always seems to be unhappy when he even senses her prescence. I think it will take a couple of weeks before they can even tolerate each other.
I'm the most worried because she is a declawed cat. I don't want her to be hurt because my current cat is not declawed. By the way, my old cat is an Orange Tabby, male, and neutered.
Thank you for your response!
He also likes to pin her down and bite her by the scruff. Not to the point of extreme pain, but to the point where she meows. I think he's just expressing that he's the dominate one.
