Best cameras for traveling?

Hi I'm looking for a good, small and compact camera that will take really good shots. It's for when I got backpacking and I don't want to spend more than $400 on it. Any ideas? I was looking at the Canon PowerShot S95 does anyone know if thats a good camera?

The S95 is good, although there are two newer models available now - the S100 and S110. The S100 should be (at least at amazon.com) available at the same price as the S95.
