This is for those who are very familiar with Chevrolets because it's for a book. What in your opinion is the best Chevrolet model before 1985 and please tell me why. Links are welcome.
This can't be a Corvette or similar. It must be a model with 4 doors that would be suitable for a cab.

My personal favorite was the 1957 Belair. Why? Because it was a car that could fit any style. From the family grocery getter, to the movie star, to the hot roder. This car was large enough to put any engine in, and the looks were simply art work. It was the Monalisa on wheels. Even today it is considered the quint essential Chevy of all time by many. I don't know anyone, who knows what a car is, that can't tell you what a '57 Chevy is when they see one.

So many good choices, but as far as best performance you are looking at 69-71ish. These motors benefitted from the best motors until the late 90s. The largest cars available were, at this time, Impalas/Caprices. Style-wise I love the 59 Bel Airs. Cool dash, great curves and points. Larger than the Shoe-box Chevys. (55-57)

I am personally a big time 61 Impala fan. Good looking lines, lots of room, don't see tons of them, they make a good hot rod, a good low rider, an even look good in stock trim.
