Best pan set for a mother who loves to cook?

I have never bought a pan set. Over the years I've picked up a cheap enough pan here or there. But I love to cook and I'm sick of cheap pans. Not that I want really pricey ones....but I would like to have something that works well for me. So I'm clueless as there seem to be ALOT of options. I usually buy nonstick but that doesn't seem to last very long. I hear stainless steel is good? Any help would be great.

Buy cast iron. It will last forever if you take care of it. It conducts heat well even at high temps. It is healthier.
 
I have to say I am very impressed with the Giada DeLaurentiis cookware at Target. It's a little pricey but not as pricey as LeCreuset (which is the very best you can buy) My opinion of non stick pans is everyone should own 1 for when they make omelets or crepes. I like stainless steel.

Actually most people really into cooking don't usually buy "sets"...they buy individual pieces, but not many of them. You'd be amazed how much difference a really good saute-type pan can make, and will be the most expensive piece, and you don't have to go all the way up to All Clad.

To those couple of pans and pots, I'd add a good enameled Dutch oven (Le Creuset, or Lodge--much cheaper but good quality), and for me at least a stainless steel pressure cooker for stovetop cookware (since they'll do all kinds of things so quickly--including stock, stews, braises, etc: http://missvickie.com/workshop/schoolframe.html ).

You might also want to check out amazon.com for their sets or their individual pieces. Reading the "Customer Reviews" for each gives you a wealth of real-world information!
 
I do cook with "non-stick" pans - but I have heard they are really bad - especially at high temps and I like to pan fry. Stainless steal with a nice heavy bottom is probably the best - a little more difficult to take care of - if I had a gas range I would get some nice cast iron. But alas, i have that glass oven top.
