best passive audiophile bookshelf speakers under $300 per pair?

I want the best quality sound bookshelf speakers for under 300 bucks per pair. I considered studio monitors but i'd need to buy a bunch of equipment to hook them up. I know sealed bookshelfs are generally more responsive than ported designs for bass but I want decent midbass. I do have a bic subwoofer.

Let your own ears be the judge. I would recommend you look at the following brand of speakers. Definitive Technology, Energy, JBL, Infinity, Klipsch and Polk Audio to name a few. Demo them at your local retail store with your own source of material. Listen to only one song on each speakers that might interest you. Hope this will help you out.
