Best remedy for a sore throat?

I have a really bad sore throat (my only symptom). It's so bad that it feels like I swallowed a piece of sandpaper and is extra sensitive to some smells. Can someone recommend a remedy for me that actually works?

I have some Honey/Lemon Throat Drops by Halls but they only temporarily help the pain. :(
