I would like to purchase speakers and a sub for my new car, nothing crazy just simple, and something that sounds crisp and clear, I don't need car alarms going off as I pass by :) My trunk is not that large so I just want one sub, and I have to keep the factory radio for the OnStar and xm features.

Where should I go without paying an arm and leg to have installed in the Iowa area? I wouldn't be opposed to buying the speakers or the sub offline either.

I rented a Cobalt one time and was seriously impressed with the amount of bass that the front speakers were putting out. 10 inch subs will be good since they have great sound quality and can get quite loud. Two 10's ported and an good amplifier will sound great. Here's a tip, get an amp that has a remote bass control. It's a little knob that mounts up front and you can adjust your bass output on the fly.

I would strongly recommend going to an auto salvage yard and getting the system out of a Cobalt SS. It is completely factory and made by Pioneer. It has a 10" woofer in a molded box to fit in your wheel well out of the way. You could take the factory amp while you're at it, but I suggest getting a small aftermarket amp instead. The rear deck speakers (6x9) and the door speakers are also made by Pioneer and should fit with little or no modifications (plug and play). Please see the image in the "source" section below.
