Hi
I have an 8 year old Newfoundland dog - very friendly but big and clumsy. Yesterday we brought home a 10 week old kitten. I've kept the kitten in our bedroom with his food and litter in our bathroom for now (he's really small and I don't think he can climb up and down the basement stairs just yet - which is where his litter and food will end up eventually). Every time I allow my Newf to come in the bedroom she totally frightens the kitten under the dresser and he wont come out for an hour. Is it best for me to let them work it out on their own? or, should I keep the door closed and keep them apart for a week or so, and then try again?
My Newf is really, really friendly with cats - no aggression whatsoever but she does put her big face right up to the kitten - she has no concept of personal space! I don't want to create tension between them and start off on the wrong foot. How can I make it easier for them?
thanks!
