Best way to stop biting???

I have a jack russel that bites all the time. Hes not biting to hurt he just wants to play or be scratched but it hurts.... how do i stop this?? Ive tried chew toys and bones but he still bites our hands and wrists...
He is one year old last month.
 
Is he a pup?

Say, "NO!" when the dog stops, give him a treat and praise him.

If he's persistent, grab him by the snout. But always try to use positive reinforcements when the dog is doing what you want him to do.

Also, try distracting him by playing a game.

ETA: He never learned that biting wasn't acceptable. Another thing...when he starts biting, get up and leave. Do NOT play with him. He apparently thinks it's ok.

Also, consider training classes, if you haven't already...terriers are stubborn and can often challenge a new handler.
 
my dog does that to except he is two times bigger american bull dog(max) i also have a jack russel ( peanut) and she hasnt done it but max does i heard it is a way to protect you he will actually grab your hand and lead you somewhere I heard that when a dog does a negative behavior just ignore them act as though you dont see them and walk away the min he starts. I saw that a\on animal planet and it was for a dog who jumped and scratche d his owners and IT worked! good luck ( oh and it has worked for me)
 
you need to take the dog to a few professional dog training sessions. the training is not just for the dog -- its for YOU too
 
I broke my cats of biting. . . by biting them back.

Not hard, I just held their head away from my face, took a leg and gnawed it a bit. This showed them that if they bit, I bit, so they didn't bit any more. My alpha cat, if he thinks I'm playing too rough, will put his mouth on my arm or hand and freeze there, just to make his point, but he never bites.
 
Actually Don't always give the dog a treat if he/she is obeying commands. give him/her treats will keep him wanting more and will only obey you if you have food on stand by. Reward them with play time.
 
My dog used to play bite when we 1st got him.
Simply flick him gently on the end of his nose with your finger & give him a loud No!
A loosely rolled newspaper on the rump with a loud No! may work as well.
Do Not reward the dogs biting by playing after the correction let the dog think about the dicipline 3-6 minutes after.
