Betta with bloated belly? What should I do?

I've had my betta for about 8 months now. He eats betta pellets every day and gets a feeding of frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, or tubifex worms every other day. This morning, when I went to feed him, I noticed that his belly was rather bloated. I looked up on what to do and found that I should feed shelled peas to him. I chopped up the pea very finely to make sure he would be able to eat it. When I put it in the tank, he looked like he was about to go for it, but then "turned his nose up" at it and waited for his pellets. He's swimming fine and eating otherwise, but I'm afraid that it will go downhill fast. I know it's not dropsy, his scales look fine and don't show a "pinecone" look to them. I've seen dropsy, and this isn't it. Any suggestions?
