Blackberry Bold 9780 not sending emails, help?

I have a BB bold 9780 on an O2 contracted, and until recently I could send and receive emails. However recently I have only been able to receive emails, and when i try to send an email, a red X comes up.
Any help would be appreciated, many thanks in advance,
