This morning when my brother spit out some gum onto the front yard, my dog Popcorn ran to mark it as his own. After doing so my brother examined the gum to find it was covered in a redish brown liquid, supposed to be blood. I've also noticed that his breathing has been quite labored. Any ideas on what it could be, or how to treat?

He could possibly have bladder stones. One of my dogs had a severe case of bladder stones, and whenever she would do her business, it was almost straight blood. Those need to be surgically removed, they can be very harmful, and even fatal! Call your vet to confirm this theory! :-o

Well blood doesn't belong in urine.. and dogs should not have laboured breathing.. I guess the answer is take him to the vet.
