blu-ray on the PS3?

i put in the disc that it comes with for the blu ray trailers of movies, and i have an hdtv (although i only used the cables that the PS3 came with) the picture wasnt that outstanding is it because of the disk or would it look better with a real movie like national treasure 2

the cables that came with the ps3 will only give out sd signal even if u plug then into a hdtv,in order to get a hd signal u need component cable or hdmi
