BMW 316i 2002, yellow fuel light come on and off itself randomly. any clue ? ?

BMW 316i 2002 . fuel light - yellow comes on and goes off after few seconds- randomly. also at the time of switching engine off . any clue

Probably a faulty sensor. Check the handbook incase it has another purpose but I doubt it.
