BMW 99' E36 M3 heater turns itself off?

While driving yesterday, the heater in my E36 M3 turned off for no reason, and a few seconds later, turned itself back on. It did it again while driving today, but failed to turn back on. The entire system turned off, no air at all was circulating through the car.

I think it's an electrical problem, but I'm not sure. A few days before the problem started happening, I was cleaning out the trunk and noticed moisture by the battery's terminals and cleaned it up. (Yes, for those unfamiliar with BMWs, the battery is in the trunk.) This could just be a consequence, but I thought I'd mention it.

Any and all productive comments are welcome. Thanks.
