I have a brand new 50" Samsung plasma (model PN50A550), set it up today and have noticed it seems to shut itself off and turn right back on, resulting in a blacked out display for about two seconds.

The TV is otherwise working fine. It has plenty of room around it for ventilation, not mounted to a wall or anything. It is plugged into a surge protector, nothing else in the house has been flickering at all and the weather outside is fine, no reason to suspect power outages would be an issue. The back of the set does feel warm, but there's nearly two feet of open space behind it and nothing above it. There should be plenty of air circulation behind it for proper ventilation.

Is there a setting I need to turn off? It does seem to happen during commercial breaks, I'm thinking if there's a pause before the next commercial starts the TV thinks the signal has dropped or something?

It's happened three times now in about six hours of use. I have an Xbox 360 connected via HDMI and a coaxial cable running to the set, nothing else is hooked up.
