buy a smartphone or netbook?

what does yahoo answers think is a better investment, a high end phone (like the motorola milestone 2) or a netbook (ultra-portable 10-12 inches preferably) i am willing to save up to around £300-400 pounds (it may take a while, haha) i already have a good desktop PC but a rubbish phone. i'd like the netbook for the convenience of being able to work on school stuff on the go but the phone has so many features too, which is a better investment?

thanks for reading

Smartphones in general weigh less and if you are planning on going on a trip, I would recommend a smartphone because you will not have that big of a load. Hope this helps :)

Both are rubbish financial investments and depreciate like crazy. Buy gold instead :-)

Working with a phone keyboard and small screen is a pain. It's OK for browsing sites designed for mobile, but trying to do anything on a website intended for desktops, like a school registration page, is probably just about impossible.
If you get both, you can tether the netbook to the phone and do everything.
(there's also in-between things like the Nokia N900 - bigger screen than a phone, but still fits in your pocket, and works with folding Bluetooth keyboards as well as built-in chiclet)

i have a HTC phone that i use often connected to my Toshiba satellite for remote internet access. if you do any document writing, try doing that on a smartphone, nah. i only text on my phone, anything larger goes on my notebook. understand this, a smartphone can't really replace the convenience of a full-sized keyboard for serious report typing.
