I live in Pennsylvania, and I've heard/found mixed answers about where a 16 year old can work. I wanted to work at a Wawa, but they sell cigarettes there. I asked a few friends, and some say I can work there, and some say I can not.

I searched online but I found no answer? Can a 16 year old work where cigarettes are sold?

no if you work in a establishment that sells lottery, liquor or tobacco you have to be of age to handle them. Lottery and ciggarettes is usually 18 (19 in Idaho) 21 in all states for liquor. You can probly get a job working there, but you cant be a cashier because cashiers handle the lottery, liquor and smokes. if your caught in the act even hadling anything of that nature you can be fired and the establishment can get their liquor licencsed pulled, or get a big hefty fine. I admire you want to work, but you can not handle any of the above until your of age. sorry

It varies from store to store. Maybe the store manager wouldn't put you in the section of the supermarket that sells cigarettes. I don't think it should be an issue that you're selling them, you just can't buy them.

If you are responsible to actually sell the cigarettes to customers I would say no. Other than that, you could work there if you are not put in charge of that department. For you, ask to apply for a job there and tell them your age. They will tell you upfront whether you may work there or not.

hmm.. your question actually got me thinking. I would say so, like as a janitor or something, although i do onot think you could handle cigarettes
