Can a church daycare use religion as a job requirement?

There are virtually no jobs where I live, but I was lucky to hear about a daycare at a church that is hiring for part time teachers. I just so happen to be an Early Childhood major so this job sounds perfect for me. There's only one problem: I am not a Christian. This wouldn't be an issue for me. I accept other people's beliefs and I would not try to undermine the beliefs that a parent wishes to teach their child. However, part of the application asked for the name of my home church and pastor, and for my Christian testimony. At any other employer, I Know this would be illegal, but since this IS a church I don't know if it's okay or not. Is a church daycare aloud to ask these things on their applications, and can it be a deciding factor in whether or not I get the job? Except for the religious background, I am totally qualified.
This is not a daycare that is run only during church hours. It is a buisiness that is run Monday through Friday, every week. They do, however use some sort of Christian ciriculum in their preschool classroom.
As long as I am not engaging in any illegal activities (which I am not) my personal life is none of my employer's business. I do not appreciate you assuming things about my moral fortitude just because I do not follow a certain religious dogma. An appreciation of dark imagery does not mean that I am an immoral person or that I would bring any "unprofessional" aspects of my life to the workplace. Perhaps the meaning of the words in question have been interpreted quite differently by me than they were by you.
