Can a future employer find out I collect unemployment? Will it tell them I got...

...FIRED from my last job? I got fired from my full-time job in October 2011 after 6 years of service. However, I have a ton of co-workers who are willing to give me great reviews if a potential future employer asks for references. I technically "should" give them corporate phone number, but I know I can definitely get away with putting down these great references who will: (a) Give me great reviews (b) Say that I'm rehireable (when I'm really not).

Here's my problem: I really need to collect unemployment benefits. However, I'm afraid if I file for unemployment my potential future employers will find out I (a) Collect Unemployment (b) Got Fired from my last job all through a BACKGROUND CHECK.

Some people tell me that employers cannot find out if a person collects unemployment, and some people tell me they can BUT it's to expensive and they'd rather just check a persons references.

Can anyone please help me out with this??
