a friend of mine was deployed to Afghanistan and he just came back, my husband is traveling to his country and we invited out friend who is in the military to go for a 2 week trip, he said he can;t leave the country between two deployments since he is leaving again in 7 months. Me and my husband thought this is ridiculous because he is a sergeant and no one can stop him from leaving the country especially when it;s for vacation after 1 year deployment.
So we wanted to Research it for him and see if it's true or his worries are senseless.
country is Bulgaria

maybe.

depends on the country, whether or not he has a Clearance and where he is in the training pipeline for the next deployment.

some countries are OFF LIMITS, period, to include most of Mexico and much of the PI. If he has Clearance there are additional places he cannot go to without jumping through a LOT of hoops.

additionally he cannot just take off whenever he wants to, he must request leave and it can be denied for any reason. Many commands require at least 30 days notice. he absolutely must complete an anti terror brief first, and those are not always available online.

so no it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility that he cannot go.
