Can an optical drive (blu ray burner) burn regular DVDs?

I'm planning to buy a PC that has an optical drive to use with my Sony HD camcorder. I just want to know if that kind of blu ray burner will burn regular CDs and DVDs. Thanks.

Make sure the optical drive says "Blue Ray" Burner... and not just Blue Ray reading, im sure blueray burners cost about 300 right now...

Most blueray burners i saw does burn regular Dvds etc... also there are some blueray "Readers" that can also burn DVDs DL+- formats, etc CDs? not so sure about that, might have problems.
