Can I be a scout sniper if I have smoked weed in the past?

I'm already in the DEP and I have already admitted to using weed. but I have failed to ask if that will affect my wanting to be a scout sniper. I already have been told I can't do anything with intel. So now I fear that I have made a mistake.
