Can i buy a Iphone 4G and use it in spain with a spanish contract?

I'm going to new york this summer. It cost like 1 000 dollar to buy a iphone here but only 299 in USA so I want to buy a Iphone 4 when i go to NY and use it here in spain with a spanish "contract"?
