Can I buy any book I want on a Nook?

I'm interested in school books/textbooks. Nooks aren't just for novels, right? I don't really get how the whole process works with these e-readers. I would hate to buy one and find out the books my professors assigned isn't available on it.

I don't think the Nook has a very good E-book store. The Kindle has tons more books on its store. It's worth the buy!
