I want to switch my verizon phone to AT&T so I can get the iPhone. My verizon account says my contract ends on 5/22/10. I already paid my bill dating 4/23/10 and I was just wondering if i can cancel my verizon account abouta month early without any fees? I want to be able to port my cell phone number to a new phone at AT&T but im not quite sure if verizon will allow me to do so without charging me tons of money. I suppose I could just wait another month until my contract is up, but i would really like to know if cancellation fees are going to be a factor if i decide to cancel my account today...any help is appreciated.

Hey, I believe with verizon contracts you start out with a $175 early term fee for each line. Basically, if I understand correctly, every month it reduces $5. So say you had your contract for only a year so far then that would be $60 off the early term fee, which would make it $115 to cancel your contract. Since you are so close to the end of your contract, I don't think you would have to pay the early term fee. However, you ONLY have about a month left. So, if I were you, I would call Verizon themselves to double check. If you won't be charged an early term. fee then go for it. But, just to let you know. I do believe there is an iphone going to be released in September sometime with verizon wireless. Hope this helped. :)

Just wait. It's only a month. Early cancellation fees can be as much as 350 dollars with Verizon. You're in a binding contract and there is no way to really get out of it. Just so you know, Verizon has phones such as the Droid that work better than the iPhone.
