can i fly with one day expired visa inside china?

hi me and my boyfriend are student in shanghai but right now we are in another province(inside china)the thing is my boyfriend visa expired one day before we suppose to fly back to shanghai, and he already extended one time for one month, is he gonna have any problems to fly with only one day expired visa? can we just go to the airport and say that as soon as he arrive to shanghai he go to make the student visa extention, please help me, thanksss

call the visa people just incase ya dont want to get there and you have to go with out him
they may let him on it but call then as then they can pull records up the other end if it is questioned at all
