Can I get non-Apple apps on iTouch 4g?

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if it is possible to download applications(still from iTunes store, just not Apple apps) onto my 32 gb iTouch 4th generation. I have heard from some sources that only Apple apps can be downloaded unless you jailbreak, but maybe they are talking about OTHER websites where apps cannot work without a jailbreak. Basically i wanna know if non-Apple apps can still be downloaded without a jailbreak. Thanks!!
