What thought processes are going on in their heads? I know that the prefrontal cortex that controls decision-making hasn't yet developed, but is there any way to prevent someone from making stupid choices?
I'm 17. My boyfriend, 16, is a great person, but he has lapses in judgment..a lot of them. Two years ago, he and a friend ran out of a restaurant without paying (they were caught, and I'm glad about that). Recently, he swore at a school bus driver for not letting him on the bus his friend was on, and that led to two other adults getting involved.
He's gone through a lot of crap (adoptive mother whom he adored died suddenly when he was 12, his new guardians put him in a private high school after middle school and he didn't know anyone, and then, his aunt took him to Shanghai with her to live, when he didn't even speak Mandarin). I'm just wondering if his personality has the capacity to change before it's too late. What can I do to help him? He recognizes when he's done something stupid; when he recounted the episode at the restaurant, he said he wasn't proud of it.
