I'm considering getting a pomeranian, but would prefer to have the dog (or any dog that I'd consider getting) be outdoors in my backyard for most of the time.

Details on backyard: My backyard is fairly large. In addition, there's a plot of fence in it that's about 5 meters by 3 meters long. It can be locked, and the dog wouldn't be able to crawl underneath. There's also a lemon tree in the plot, and one side of the fence is a concrete wall.

Input will be greatly appreciated.

I dont believe in keeping dogs outside, they need love and warmth of a house and they need to be pampered too.

it can be done even tho I am too soft...
it would be a real little wolf and have a awesome coat too...

It could be stolen, abused or attacked by other animals. If it is in the house, it will warn you of would be intruders. If it is outside would be intruders will kill it before they break in.

No - dogs are pack animals and prefer to be with their pack - that means inside with your family. Would you put a child in the back yard and leave it most of the time? Poms are toy breeds and bred for inside pets to sit in your lap. So keeping a Pom outside is a good way to get it stolen by someone that cares about the dog!

what kind of weather
where do you live
i wouldn't, but i wouldn't keep any dog outside all the time. mine go out when i do. if you have hawks or coyotes in area expect your pom to disappear
