Can I Make Iphone Operating System?

Lets say i knew how to program and make simple operating systems. is It Possible to erase the operating system of an ipod touch or iphone and use my own operating system that i create?
 
Probably. I mean they can do that to iPods and stuff, so why not an iPhone?

Technically, an iPhones like a computer, to a point- 8/16/32gb "hard drive" 128/255mb ram.
 
Well, yeah, you could. You'd need to understand how it's programmed though. I believe it runs on an ARM instruction set, so If you can program for that, and then somehow get it onto the data chip, and then in some godly way not get it to over/under power all of the hardware attached to the board. So yeah, you could, but it would be a helluva task.
