Can i play a game on my laptop while using iPhone Hotspot?

My question is this. Can i connect my laptop to my iPhone's Hotspot to play an online game?

I have 500mb of internet but unlimited browsing. Would attempting to play an online game like League of Legends, an MMORPG, or MW3 take up my 500mb limit and result in an extra phone bill fee at the end of the month? (How fast of a time frame would a game like MW3 eat up 500mb?)

Unfortunately my home internet crashed 2 days ago due to a signal issue and the maintenance guy isn't coming till Tues or Wed.
 
I wouldn't use the hotspot to play games they eat data really fast and 500mb is not a lot of data. If you go over it you will be paying a $1.99 a MB which is really high. Just wait till you get you home internet fixed.
