Can I put a T-Mobile sim card into a TracPhone?

My boyfriend dropped his T-Mobile phone down the stairs. It is held together by duck-tape. I have a TracPhone that isn't being used and want to know if he can put his sim card into the phone and use it like he would his duck-tape phone (same plan, not pay as you go, etc etc).
The TracPhone has a slot for a sim card. But the phone is currently dead and I don't want to buy a charger for it unless I know it's gonna work.
