Can i run my snowmobile lights off of my battery because i believe the lighting

coil on the stator is shot? I have a 1992 rxl polaris triple indy fuel injected which is why it has a battery. I was thinking about splicing into the wires coming off the stator and putting a on off switch somewhere and connecting it to the battery. Will this work, or any other suggestions?
 
My advice is just get another lighting coil. It's easier to replace then splicing the wires. Don't screw with it.
