Can i splice together two 16 gauge wires with an 18 gauge wire butt connector?

Can i splice together two 16 gauge wires with an 18 gauge wire butt connector?
i am installing a car stereo. i know most car stereo wires are 12-16 gauge. i bought 18-22 gauge butt connectors. can i use those? or will it be too large?

i am not sure exactly what size the wires on the stereo are...


well.. i know how to splice... but im concerned about the size difference in the connectors and the wire... will that matter?
